Communities Creating Change (CCC) empowers youth and adults to improve their lives and communities. We do this by combining writing, history, community dialogue, and the arts into innovative intergenerational programming in Riverdale, IL. CCC helps to build caring, responsible and active citizens with the knowledge, self-esteem, leadership capacity and skills necessary to engage in collective community improvement.
The Origins of CCC
In 2005 a creative writing teacher, a drama teacher, and a community psychologist met to discuss the needs of Cook County’s youth. The result of this conversation was TAIC – Teens Acting In Community – a non-profit organization that. facilitated after-school and summer programming with middle and high school youth. In 2009, with a move to Riverdale and a growth in programming, the organization was renamed Communities Creating Change
Today CCC is housed at the the New Riverdale Park, 151 W. 137th Street, Riverdale IL. The New Riverdale Park District “supports the positive development of the community by building opportunities, providing programs, and furnishing resource referrals and information to residents.”
CCC offers a range of programs for youth and families of all ages. Our Teens Acting In Community (TAIC) program program works with youth ages 13-18 to explore history and identity through writing and theatre. The BTC Club (Breaking the Cycle) creates space for youth ages 5-21 to come together and discuss both the positive and negative aspects of their lives and community, and learn how to create positive change through education and the arts. The Family Round Table is an opportunity for youth and adults to engage in dialogue in a safe, open, intergenerational space. CLICK HERE to read more about our diverse programs.
